Rocking the MCC for charity
It is time once again for FM Theatre Productions' annual musical extravaganza at the Mediterranean Conference Centre entitled Vocal Aid. The concert, which is in its fifth edition, will comprise a 500-strong choir made up of Stagecoach Malta students of all ages.
Songs this year include The Song That Goes Like This from hit comedy Spamalot, When You Believe from the cartoon-film
The Prince of Egypt, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! from the well-loved classic Mary Poppins and Bohemian Rhapsody from the West End musical We Will Rock You. The musical director of Vocal Aid is Denise Mulholland.
An innovation this year is the addition of dance numbers, choreographed by Emma Loftus and Tricia Galea and performed by a dance troupe created specially for Vocal Aid, also made up entirely of Stagecoach Malta students.
One of the founders of FM Theatre Productions, Edward Mercieca, said that so far Vocal Aid has raised over €25,000 for various charities and organisations such as SOS Eden, Dar tal-Providenza, Puttinu Cares, Daniel Delicata Foundation and the Spina Bifida and Hydroenchephalus Association. This year, proceeds will go to the Equal Partners Foundation.
"The idea of this mega-concert was inspired by the fact that we believe that children who attend Stagecoach are very lucky and we wanted to instil in them the feeling of giving something back to society. And what better way is there than to use the skills that they are learning at Stagecoach to good use by performing in order to raise money for other less fortunate children?" says Mr Mercieca.
• Vocal Aid is being held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre on June 7 at 7.30 p.m. and June 8 at 6.30 p.m. Bookings may be by phone on 2559 5750/1 or e-mail bookings@mcc.com.mt. More information may be obtained by phone on 2141 9306 or e-mail: info@stagecoachmalta.com.
