Labour Party Leader Joseph Muscat said yesterday that while the country craved justice, there was the need for the peace that forgiveness brings along with it.
Speaking during a ceremony in San Ġwann to recall the death of Karin Grech, aged 15, by a parcel bomb 34 years ago, Dr Muscat said such incidents left a black mark in the nation’s history.
“Both Karin Grech’s and Raymond Caruana’s murders were tragic, cruel and criminal. Looking ahead, these commemorations ought to be organised by the state and not by political parties,” Dr Muscat added.
The address was given following Mass said at the church of Our Lady of Lourdes in San Ġwann.
Karin Grech was killed when she opened a parcel addressed to her father Edwin who had just returned from abroad to give his services at St Luke’s Hospital in the middle of a strike by doctors.
