Two students from the ecoschool committee of St Benedict College, Żurrieq Primary C School recently visited Montem Primary School in Slough, UK, to exchange ideas and discussed future linking possibilities related to climate change
Both schools are taking part in the HSBC Eco-Schools Climate Initiative Project. Ecoschool is an international environmental education programme run by the Foundation for Environmental Education and managed locally by Nature Trust (Malta).
The Żurrieq school has been involved in the programme for several years now, and this year’s focus was to enhance pupils’ awareness of the effects that climate change is having on the world and to instil an overall sense of responsibility and action in the local community.
During the visit ecoschool president Kelly Cini and vice-president Carley Cassar, both aged 11, gave a presentation about Malta and the environmental initiatives taken by the school and the Żurrieq community. The students were accompanied by assistant head Maria Concetta Scerri and Year 6 teacher Sandra Buhagiar as ecoschool link officers. The visit was organised by ecoschool coordinator Cynthia Caruana.
