About 100 new police constables are to be recruited in the coming weeks, the Home Affairs Minister said yesterday.

This is the third recruitment within the force in the rank of constable in two-and- a-half years, during which a total of 229 constables were recruited.

The selection process will be divided into three parts: physical efficiency, interview and medical examination. Application will be received until noon on February 29.

At present, the police has over 2,100 members, the highest in the last five years.

There are approximately 1,050 police officers stationed about the police districts in Malta and Gozo and about 1,135 officers in various specialised squads.
