The twelve illegal immigrants who escaped from the immigration centre at Hal Far early on Wednesday morning were found by police in a Bugibba residence yesterday evening.

Accompanied by members of the mobile squad, the district police, acting upon an anonymous telephone tip-off that there were some suspicious-looking foreigners in a residence in Turisti Street, swooped on the residence at about 7 p.m., where they found the illegal immigrants who, on seeing the police, attempted to escape.

However they were all rounded up and taken to the Qawra police station. The group consisted of seven Indians, three Libyans, a Tunisian and a Pakistani.

Originally, 14 illegal immigrants had escaped, but two of them, an Iraqi and a Syrian, were caught later on Wednesday. They had escaped by cutting through the iron bars in the window of the room where they were staying.
