12,000 people have their say on White Rocks and other national parks

Areas of White Rocks are now 'safe and accessible to the public'

As many as 12,000 people participated in the public consultation on the three national parks as initial works have been carried out to make areas at White Rocks safe and accessible to the public.

Environment Minister Miriam Dali said that between December and  April more than 6,000 submissions were collated through the parksinmalta.mt platform as part of the consultation process. Project Green also organized around 100 workshops and focus groups with hundreds of residents, students, families, elderly people, local councils and NGOs, gathering further comments from around 6,000 participants.

Dalli said that, following the public consultation, “there is now a clear direction on communities’ priorities”.

“Public land should be used for the public good,” Dalli said.

She added the contributions received through the consultation were “consistent and concrete”. The holistic plan for these three projects is now being drawn up together with Chapman Taylor, an international firm with 13 studios around the world.

“White Rocks is open in a safe manner for the public to enjoy. From here, we will continue working to transform this site into a national open space that is safe, accessible and worthy of the country,” she added.

More than 22,000 tonnes of construction waste and dangerous structures were removed during the cleaning works at White Rocks. Fencing, signs and picnic benches were also installed so that the public can access the site “in a safer and more organised way”, the minister said.

The first public event at White Rocks will  be held on May 16 and 17 with a Spring Festival.
