A 35-year-old Englishman was yesterday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment and fined Lm25,000 after pleading guilty to drug importation and conspiracy to trafficking drugs.

Gregory Robert Eyre had pleaded guilty to cocaine possession, importation and conspiracy when he was charged in August last year and filed a guilty plea instead of facing a trial by jury yesterday.

Eyre had been charged together with Susan Jayne Molyneaux. Molyneaux had pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono ordered that the Lm25,000 fine had to be paid within 15 days, failing which it would be converted into an additional 18 month jail term.

Eyre was also condemned to pay Lm915 in court expenses.
