17-year-old charged with injuring elderly neighbour in Mellieħa

The accident happened on Monday

A 17-year-old was charged with assaulting and seriously injuring his elderly neighbour following a dispute involving the boy’s family business.

Magistrate Nadine Lia heard the boy plead not guilty to threatening, assaulting, and injuring the elderly man.

The magistrate heard how police received a report on May 11 from the victim’s wife about a fight. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found broken plant pots in front of a garage in Mellieħa, and the victim had a gash on his nose.

Police were told that an argument broke out because the victim’s house was near a garage belonging to the boy’s family, who operated a business there.

The boy was denied bail.

Inspector Warren Galea prosecuted, while defence lawyer Josette Sultana represented the accused.
