The Malta Tennis Federation has just hosted the 2002 Tennis Europe Junior General Meeting at a hotel in Sliema.
Delegates from various European countries attended the meeting which officials considered to be one of the largest Tennis Europe Junior meetings ever held.
Similar events serve mainly to co-ordinate tennis development programmes throughout Europe and introduce new incentives to promote the sport within the continent.
Distinguished personalities, such as leading ITF/Tennis Europe officers Luca Santilli, Olli Maempa and Charlotte Ferrari, and Malta Olympic Committee president Lino Farrugia Sacco, were among the speakers.
Representing the MTF at the general meeting were president Peter Zammit, Adrian Borg Cardona, the director of finances, and junior committee chairman Benny Vidal.
Meanwhile, Sanja Jukic, a 20-year-old former Yugoslav champion, has become the latest in a number of sparring partners to visit the island and train with Maltese players.
Jukic is a national squad and Fed. Cup member and four years ago she played in the Masters Series in Europe.
More foreign players are planned to visit Malta in future as part of the MTF's programme for its national squad players to raise the standard of their game.
