21-year-old who crashed motorcycle in Pembroke dies

Italian rider becomes 19th road fatality of the year

A motorcyclist who crashed in Pembroke at 5.30am on Thursday has died, the police said in a brief statement on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Italian man crashed his Kymco Agility motorbike into a concrete barrier on Triq Sant’ Andrija and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Despite medical teams’ best efforts, he subsequently died in hospital.

The motorcyclist is the 19th person to die as a result of traffic incidents this year, and the second motorcyclist to die this past week.

In a separate, unrelated incident, a motorcyclist was killed by an underage driver who fled the scene last Sunday morning. The driver was subsequently caught, arrested and charged with manslaughter.
