22 detained for staying in Malta illegally

They will be repatriated

Twenty-two persons are being held in detention after being found to be staying in Malta illegally, the police said.

They were apprehended in raids in Blata l-Bajda, Ħamrun, Marsa, Fgura and Rabat. The raids included private residences.

Police officers were assisted by officers of the Detention Service.

The police said the migrants will be kept in detention until arrangements are made for their relocation to their country of ordinary residence.

"Malta is continuing to honour its international obligations while also respecting local laws," the police said.
