A record 238 songs were entered for the Malta Song for Europe festival by the deadline on Friday.

A total of 224 songs were submitted last year.

The first panel of juries, consisting of 15 Maltese personalities from the local music scene, will pick the top 50 songs tomorrow and on Thursday.

The list of the 50 songs making it to the second phase will be announced at the Radisson SAS Baypoint Hotel on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The second phase, where the 50 songs will be cut down to 24, will take place on December 16.
