25 arrested for staying in Malta irregularly

Maltese man to face charges for facilitating irregular migration

Twenty-five persons are under arrest after being found to be living in Malta irregularly.

A Maltese man is also under arrest and will be taken to court for allegedly facilitating irregular migration, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

The arrests were made during inspections on route buses, a traffic hub in Marsa, Paceville streets and a residence.

The arrested persons will be held by the Detention Service until their removal from Malta, the ministry said.

During the traffic checks in Marsa, 52 vehicles were stopped and fines were issued for overloading and passengers not wearing seatbelts.

One vehicle was towed away after officers found that it was not covered by a road licence and insurance policy.

Officers from the Police, the Detention Service,  Jobs Plus, Identità, and Transport Malta took part in the operation.
