A fierce fire that enveloped a storage field at Corradino industrial estate on Sunday destroyed some 50 vehicles as well as a number of laid-up boat.
An aerial picture of the aftermath of the early afternoon blaze was issued by the Civil Protection Department, which battled the fire for several hours, succeeding in stopping it from spreading to an adjoining factory.
The fire produced a thick column of smoke, seen from most localities in Malta, the resut of burning fuel and tyres. At one time police urged neighbours to keep windows closed.
It took the firefighters five hours, 250,000 litres of water and 2,500 litres of foam to put out a blaze.
No one was injured.
