A total of 26 light aircraft from seven European countries will be taking part in the International Air Rally of Malta this weekend.
Organiser George Kissaun said this will be the 39th annual air rally, with participants flying in from the UK., Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland.
This year will see the 2,980th participant in the rally since 1969. In all, 1,094 light aircraft from 25 countries in Europe, North Africa, Far East, and the United States have taken part.
During the rally, pilots will be tested for their precision flying by being required to keep strictly to their designated arrival time over Gordan Tower in Gozo. They will also be tested for their navigation skills through a Flight Planning Competition.
Marks will also be given for the upkeep and safety of their aircraft and a spot landing competition at Luqa.
The first aircraft arrives tomorrow at 11.50 a.m. and other arrivals fly in at 10-minute intervals.
The air rally will this year be based at Park 3.
