The Planning Authority has 41 pending applications for hotel/tourist accommodation development, including the building of a five-star hotel at Tas-Sellum in Mellieha, the proposed tourist complexes at White Rocks and Hondoq ir-Rummien, the rebuilding of the Riviera Martinque Hotel at Ghajn Tuffieha and the development of "Malta's first heritage park" at Ta' Cenc in Gozo.

A list tabled in parliament yesterday also includes applications for extensions to the five-star Phoenicia, Dragonara and San Lawrenz hotels and a recent application for Villa Cassar Torreggiani in St Julian's to be converted into a hotel.

Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg gave the following list when replying to a parliamentary question by Mr Evarist Bartolo (MLP):

Two applications for the re-design of hotel site including the demolition of existing barracks and construction of a mixed use 400 bed facility at Fort Chambray, Gozo; the demolition and rebuilding of the Hotel Regina in Sliema as a four-star hotel; an extension of the Victoria Hotel in Sliema, including a multi-storey car park; extension of an existing hotel in Xlendi to include 12 new rooms and indoor pool facilities; the building of a 40-bed health farm at Vittoriosa Peninsula below Fort St Angelo; the building of a five-star 174-bed five star complex at Tas-Sellum in Mellieha along with a chapel and pastoral centre and parking space for 124 cars in landscaped grounds.

An extension of the Phoenicia Hotel to include a health and leisure centre at St John Ditch; a tourist centre at White Rocks Coast; extension of the Hotel Kennedy Nova, Gzira; extension of the Waterfront Hotel, Gzira; extension of the Euro Club Hotel in St Paul's Bay; change of use from reservoir to hotel bedrooms and construction of conference facilities at the Grand Hotel Mercure, Selmun; extension of the Grand Hotel, Ghajnsielem; extension of hotel to incorporate the Palace of the captain of galleys at Vittoriosa;

Extension of San Lawrenz Resort in Gozo; new indoor swimming pool at the Mellieha Holiday Centre; demolition of the central section of the New Dolmen Hotel and excavation for the building of quay, bars, restaurants, hotel rooms, parking area, swimming pool and apartments; internal alterations and extension of the Midas Hotel in Sliema;

Conversion of a house in Sannat into a guest house and learning centre; demolition of existing buildings and additions to hotel in Coleridge Street, Ponsonby Street and the Strand, Gzira; construction of a hotel, yacht marina and tourist village at Hondoq ir-Rummien, Gozo;

Demolition and rebuilding of the Valentina Hotel in St Julian's; construction of hotel at Misrah il-Bajja, St Paul's Bay; addition of rooms and fire escape at Paradise Bay Hotel, Mellieha;

Construction of new four star hotel at the Millennium Park Hotel site in St Paul's Bay; change of use of disused residence and development of a hotel at Villa Cassar Torreggiani, St Julian's;

Extension of Sobra Hotel, Mellieha; demolition and rebuilding of Festival Hotel, Mellieha; development of heritage park at Ta' Cenc; change of use from holiday flats to aparthotel at Porto Azzurro, St Paul's Bay;

Demolition of existing apart hotel and building of new 144-bed aparthotel at Buskett Forest, Buskett; demolition of the Riviera Martinique Hotel and building of new hotel receding from the cliff face.

Part demolition of the Comino Hotel and replacement with new facilities including extension; outline development plan for St George's Hotel, St George's Bay; new guest rooms at the Imperial Hotel, Sliema; two applications for demolition of existing structures and extensions of the Westin Dragonara Hotel; alterations and additions to the Verdala Hotel including a golf course.

Hilton site amendment to beach club; building of a 180 room five star hotel at Hondoq ir-Rummien.
