437 fines for taking out trash at the wrong time in first six months of 2026

Four fines issued to people mixing waste until the end of April

The environment and resources authority issued 437 fines in the first six months of the year to people who took out their trash bags outside of the waste collection schedule.

A total of 357 warning letters were issued between January and April to people who mixed their waste, while four were fined by ERA.

Environment Minister Miriam Dalli provided the data in parliament on Monday in reply to questions by PN MP Norma Camilleri.

She noted that before people are fined over mixed waste, they are first issued with a warning letter.

If they are caught, once again, mixing their waste, they will be fined, and the amount depends on whether the waste originated from a commercial establishment or a domestic one.
