The government’s decision to reduce fuel prices confirmed that the opposition was making a difference in people’s lives, the Nationalist Party said in a statement this morning.
It noted that, up to a few days ago, both Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi had continued to insist that the fuel prices in Malta were justified in spite of the country having among the highest rates in Europe.
Following the Opposition’s pressure, the government was left with no other option but to reduce prices. This confirmed how right the Opposition was and that the government had not been honest when it said it could not reduce rates.
However, everyone knew that a 4c reduction was not enough and not a fair deal.
The Opposition was continuing to insist that the government reduced rates substantially for prices in Malta to reflect the drastic reductions in the international price of oil, as was happening in other European countries.
The country should not boast that, as from tomorrow, it was to have the fourth highest prices of petrol and diesel in Europe, the PN said.
