Tennis Club Kordin (TCK), in conjunction with the Malta Tennis Federation, will be hosting the San Michel International Ranking Under-18 Tournament next month.
This year, the number of participants has exceeded all expectations with a total of 373 boys and 235 girls adding up to an astounding 608 players.
Once again, the tournament attracted players from all parts of the globe including Australia, Venezuela, Kazakhstan, Chile and Zimbabwe.
Play is expected to be of a significantly high level with the best ranked male player, Poland’s Patryk Krolik, reaching the 231st place in the world.
The highest ranked player in the girls’ tournament will be Natalia Boltinskaya, from Russia.
At present, Boltinskaya is no.397 in the world list.
Malta will be represented by Zak Ciappara, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Farrugia, Katrina Sammut and Emily Lightfoot.
The tournament gets underway with the qualifying rounds on the weekend of April 4 and 5.
Signing in for the main draw will take place on April 5 and matches from the first round will be played the next day.
The finals are scheduled for April 11.
Signing in for the doubles tournament will be held on April 6.
The organisers at TCK have the backing of Simonds Farsons Cisk who will be sponsoring the ranking tournament for yet another year.
