A total of 678 babies were born to unmarried mothers last year, from a total of 4,036 births, Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg told Helena Dalli (MLP) in reply to a parliamentary question.

In the year 2000 there were 464 births to unmarried mothers from a total of 4,386 births.
