More than 7 million kg of waste collected from White Rocks

The site is set to be transformed into a national park

More than seven million kg of waste have been collected from White Rocks in preparation for the creation of a national park, the government said on Monday.

Minister Miriam Dalli, Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield, Director General of the Cleansing and Maintenance Division Ramon Deguara and a Project Green team visited the site to meet workers currently carrying out extensive cleaning, pruning, and waste removal works.

It took 225 truck trips to remove the waste collected so far at the site.

“One of the first things we did was close off areas that could pose a danger to people while also collecting a large amount of waste that had been dumped over the years, particularly construction waste," Dalli said.

Bedingfield noted there was still much more to be done at the site. Cleaning and preparation work is expected to continue in the coming months as the government proceeds with plans to transform White Rocks into a new national park for the public.

The works are being carried out by Project Green and the Cleansing and Maintenance Division.
