70 take the plunge for charity
Young and old take a dip in St Julian's Bay to raise funds
Some 70 people took the plunge for charity on Sunday, diving off Moll Xatt is-Sajjieda for a dip in the cold water at St Julian’s Bay.
The activity was organised for a second year by San Ġiljan Aquatic Sports Club and St Julian’s local council, its purpose also being to promote aquatic sports.
Carlo Mifsud, a councillor and secretary of the club, said €1,800 were raised, about the same as last year. They will be donated to Embrace Diversity Organisation, a voluntary organisation for children and youths with disabilities.
He thanked gaming company Payhound and Cavalieri Art Hotel for helping out. He said participants thoroughly enjoyed themselves, although, as expected, the sea was chilly, and a bit choppy. The youngest participants were children aged six and seven, and the oldest, a 76-year-old man. The sea temperature was 19 degrees, according to the Met Office.
