81-year-old loses control of car, ends up in the sea at Mġarr harbour

Driver rescued by passers-by

A car was recovered from Mġarr harbour in Gozo on Saturday morning after an 81-year-old lost control of the vehicle and ended up in the sea.

Pedestrians rescued the driver from the Daihatsu Sirion vehicle, which had entered the water in the Zewwieqa Bay area of the harbour, the police confirmed shortly after the incident.

The man refused medical treatment or to be taken to hospital, police added.

This is not the first time a car has ended up in the sea in the area; in May 2023, a man was rescued from his car by the Armed Forces after it fell into the sea close to the passenger terminal.
