Wardens up to the end of last month had issued a total of 835 tickets against karozzini owners for not having or not using bags meant for the horses not to dirty the streets, figures given in parliament yesterday show.

Justice minister Austin Gatt, replying to a parliamentary question, gave a break-down of the contravention tickets issued by wardens between January and the end of September.

By far the biggest number of tickets, 16,260 were issued to drivers who did not have their licence properly fixed on windscreen. Next, at 8,494, were tickets issued to those who drove over no stopping or double yellow lines and 5,944 for ignoring no waiting signs.

In all, the wardens issued a total of 113,647 tickets.

The minister said in reply to another question that six wardens were injured while on duty this year.

The questions were put by Justice Minister Adrian Vassallo (MLP).
