I read with some interest the article about the old railway line running from Valletta to Mtarfa (January 27).

Does any of this route still exist? If so is it walkable? The reason I enquire is that I come to Malta in the winter months especially to walk, as it’s often too wet, windy, snowy or just too cold to do so in England.

I first came across a reference to the railway in Nicholas Monsarrat’s excellent book The Kappillan of Malta. I tried to find some evidence of the railway two years ago while in Ħamrun, admiring the remains of the aquifer system built by Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt.

If anyone can provide any information as to whether one can walk the old railway, I would be grateful.
