Six Rover Scouts from the Stella Maris College Rover Crew recently travelled to Switzerland to spend some time at Kandersteg International Scout Centre, a world centre of the Scout movement.
This centre opened in 1923 after Lord Baden Powell expressed his wish for a place where scouts from all over the world could meet.
Beginning on August 11, the Rover Crew experienced adrenaline-pumping activities, including an 11,500-feet sky dive from a plane over the Alps.
Other activities included white water rafting, hiking, mountain biking, high ropes, abseiling, zip wires and monkey bridges.
Furtermore, they had a go at skiing, sledding and snowboarding after travelling to Jungfraujoch, which is the highest point in Europe accessible by train.
In keeping with traditional scouting, the crew also undertook a challenging but worthwhile hike over rough terrain, from Lake Oeschinen to Frundenhutte, which is a hut situated at the top of a mountain. After spending the night there, the scouts participated in a glacier workshop and practised crevassing and glacier rescue techniques.
After leaving Switzerland, the crew went to Italy for three days and took part in leisurely activities, including visits to a fun park, an aqua park and the Ferrari Museum.
