Air Malta has cancelled its daily flights to Tripoli after the airport at the Libyan capital city was closed down due to heavy fighting in the area.
An airline spokesman said they were informed yesterday by Tripoli airport it was closing down for 72 hours.
“Soon after, we were informed that it was closed until further notice,” he said.
Air Malta was closely monitoring and “analysing” the situation to see how it would develop, the spokesman said, pointing out that the Benghazi airport had been closed two months ago. Passengers who had booked flights to fly either way were offered a full refund or a rebooking with on another date, the spokesman said.
British Airlines and Turkish Airways cancelled flights too.
