The Art Discussion Group (ADG) is today hosting Paul Scerri, a professional ceramist in the artistic and industrial sectors, to discuss his work, vision and concept.
A presentation of his collections will be followed by a discussion and question time. The presentation will focus upon Scerri’s exhibitions Running with Scissors (2015) and its sequel An Accidental Find (2017).
Scerri’s work is a deep insight into the human psyche and man’s foibles, vicissitudes and absurd obsessions. The key word ‘scissors’ is used metaphorically and in reality the works are an extended metaphor.
Scerri’s career started in 1970s. He embarked on professional training under the tutorship of Esprit Barthet and went on to study in Italy, where he became enraptured by the clay medium and enhanced his knowledge in design and decoration of ceramic tiles by completing his studies in Imola.
Scerri was awarded first prize in ceramics at the Concorso Avis held in Faenza. He returned to Malta to teach at the Art and Design Centre in Valletta.
He also works for one of the leading marble tile factories and is a part-time lecturer in ceramics at the University of Malta within the Faculty of Education.
The group is meeting today at 7.30pm at St Mary Band Club, Qrendi (near parish church). For more information, visit www.adgmalta.webs.com.
