BORG. On May 4, at St Vincent de Paul residence, DORIS of Gżira, aged 75, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Mario, Silvana and her husband Samuel Abela, her grandchildren, her sister Lina and her husband Joe, Liberat, widower of her sister Tessie Pace, Nena Zammit, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence tomorrow at 8 a.m. for Gżira parish church where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Support Group, Rainbow Ward, Mater Dei Hospital, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

DELCEPPO. On May 5, at Mater Dei Hospital, FORTUNATO of Cospicua, residing in Marsascala, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Rita, his children Mary and her husband Charlie, Rennie and his wife Ditte, his grandchildren Josef and his wife Amanda, Karen and Stephanie, his great-granddaughter Amy, his brothers and sisters, in-laws, their respective spouses and families, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Collegiate church, Cospicua, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

ZAMMIT – JOSEPH. On May 5, aged 85, passed away peacefully at Mater Dei Hospital, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his wife Rose, née Camilleri, his daughters Francesca and her husband Kenneth Bartolo, Sylvia and her husband Igino Xuereb, his grandchildren Keith, Neal and Rebecca, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. for Marsaxlokk parish church where Mass praesente cadvere will be said at 9 a.m. followed by interment at the Gudja cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza will be greatly appreciated.

Music Competition

The National Council of Women will hold the 13th edition of the Bice Mizzi-Vassallo music competition in October, which is open to performers aged 22 and under who play one of the following instruments: piano­forte, violin, viola, violoncello or double bass.

Applications close on July 15 but candidates applying before June 15 will benefit from a discount in the application fee.

Prizes include a short summer course abroad, all expenses paid and cash prizes.

Talks on marriage and the family

The Society of Christian Doctrine, MUSEUM, will be holding three talks on Marriage and the Family at the Central House of the Society in Blata L-Bajda, on May 18, 19 and 29 at 7 p.m. The topics will be Christian Marriage: a Spiritual Journey; The Teaching of the Church on Marriage and the Family and Challenges, Difficulties and Support in Marriage and in the Family.

Rock mass in Mqabba

As part of the activities marking the European Youth Week 2011, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ and Kummissjoni Djoċesana Żgħażagħ in collaboration with Mqabba’s Our Lady of Lilies Musical Society, which is celebrating the first centenary from its official foundation, are organising a rock Mass on May 20, from 8 p.m. in the main square of the village.

Power cuts

There will be power cuts in the following localities tomorrow:

Between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. in Awrekarja, Palm, Joseph Gravina and streets and Tarxien Road in Gudja.

Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. in Falkun, Merill, Gardell, Ħuttaf, Malvizz, Alwett, Ċawl, G. Despott, Tellerit and Virdun streets in San Ġwann.

Missions fundraiser

The Missions Office of Merchant Street, Valletta organised, for the first time this year, a television marathon called Għini Nemmen, Għini Ngħix in aid of six missionary projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The sum raised from this 28-hour marathon amounted to €107,000.

Rosary chain

A rosary chain will be held at Borg In-Nadur Hill, Birżebbuġa on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m. The rosary will be recited every half-hour and will be dedicated to protecting the country against the introduction of divorce.
