I refer to Seb Tanti Burlo’s cartoon of September 16 and accompanying text.  Let it be clearly understood that the people of Great Britain were not conned. We were told lie after lie by leaders of Remain, for example that there were no plans for a European army, and that a vote to leave would usher in Armageddon. This has not and will not happen, and just a few days ago Jean-Claude Juncker has been unveiling his plans for a European army.

We, like all the countries of Europe, are a sovereign nation and we expect that the laws of our land be respected. This however is not in fact the case. Our courts made decisions to deport Islamic hate preachers, a reasonable act for any nation to take in maintaining its security. However, the European Court of Human Rights said time and again that such a move was illegal.

Further, people are incensed by the fact that immigrants are claiming benefits to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds and are sending this home to, as one man said, build a big house, and another, to open a hotel, all at the British taxpayers’ expense. These are just two of countless examples. This again cannot be stopped because of European legislation.

Again, I say the 17 million who voted for Brexit were not conned. It is interesting that there are similar movements in other countries. Many in history have tried to unite Europe, from the Romans down through the centuries. All have failed and the EU is not a failing, but a failed experiment as evidenced by recent statements made by the Prime Minister of Hungary. No, it is the people of Europe who are continuing to be conned and being led by unelected presidents such as Juncker et al.

In conclusion it must be emphasised that Great Britain is taking back sovereignty over its own affairs, borders and laws. We are not pulling up the drawbridge and as a nation we will continue to be open for our European friends, and they will always be welcome.
