Suzanne Buttigieg (15 years) and Peppijna Dalli (18 years) will represent Malta at the World Championships in Glasgow, this weekend.

Buttigieg will compete in all four equipments – beam, floor, vault and bars – while Dalli joins the field in bars and vault.

Kirsty Caruana was all set to join her two Malta Gymnastics Federation team-mates for the trip to Scotland but had to pull out in the last minute due to an injury.

The World Championships will be the fifth for Buttigieg and Dalli in their respective careers.

Competition in Glasgow will be very tight as the championships will double as qualifiers for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

In all, organisers are expecting a record 600 gymnasts to take part in competitions that got under way yesterday. The championships, at the iconic SSE Hydro, come to a close tomorrow week.

The competition schedule comprises four days of qualification events followed by six days of finals where gymnasts compete in team, all-around and individual apparatus events.
