No fewer than 30 waterpolo hopefuls from the Sliema ASC nursery recently took part in the ‘Go Calcaterra Waterpolo Camp’.
The training camp was organised jointly by the Sliema Aquatic Sports Club and Roberto Calcaterra, the former Italy national team stalwart.
This was the second such camp and was once again fully subscribed for.
Training consisted of five sessions at the National Pool during which Calcaterra was assisted by Sliema ASC coaches and a few first-team players.
Nursery head, John Attard, explained the benefits of having such diversified training sessions.
“While the Sliema ASC nursery already employs coaches of the highest calibre from the world of waterpolo, 12 months a year, we feel that our athletes can only gain from this added exposure to a different school of waterpolo, such as the Italian one,” Attard said in a statement.
Calcaterra, a former world champion, expressed his satisfaction at the level of organisation from the Sliema ASC nursery.
He continued to encourage local talent to develop and also sounded satisfied with his ever-growing partnership with the Maltese club.
The training camp was made possible by the sponsorship of GO, Sliema ASC said.
“This was surely a valuable experience for the aspiring waterpolo players who took part,” the statement concluded.
