The Labour party yesterday called for the National Family Commission to be set up urgently to give family policy the priority it deserved.
Labour’s Justyne Caruana pointed out that the Permanent Parliamentary Committee for the Family had been set up and was operating, thanks to a Labour motion, but the commission proposed in the same motion had not yet been appointed. She accused the government of dragging its feet on the matter.
Dr Caruana reminded the government that although it had been reluctant to agree to the Labour motion, it had eventually voted in favour and should, therefore, immediately appoint the family commission.
