Malta’s Constitution states quite categorically: “The State shall safeguard the landscape and the historic and artistic patrimony of the Nation”.
The same Constitution is certainly not being observed in the current ravaging of Iklin Valley. With the apparent blessing of Mepa, thanks to the planned development, including a new road at the top of the valley side, the landscape is being totally and utterly destroyed forever.
Until now, the rural landscape at Iklin had been maintained thanks to orderly and contained development. Mepa now seems intent on destroying this balance.
It is still not too late to prevent this disaster in the making.
