The 2015-16 Motocross Championship, organised by the Assoċjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi, ended on a low-key note as Camilleri brothers Clayton and Kyle missed the last round of racing at the circuit in Ta’ Qali, last weekend.

The Motocross series was part of the evening programme of racing which had a registration of 40 competitors in the various categories contested.

With championship leader Clayton Camilleri (picture, above) and second-placed Kyle Camilleri not among the starters, the Motocross Class A final was dominated by Mario Cauchi on his Honda.

On Saturday, Cauchi rode to victory followed by David Dimech on a Kawasaki.

Clayton Camilleri (KTM) was declared national champion for the 10th time in his career. Next season, he will compete in the Motocross series again sporting the no.1 on his bike with Kyle Camilleri (KTM) securing no.2 status.

An intriguing challenge characterised the Class B championship race as Jethro Sant (Yamaha) was engaged in a tight duel with Gozitan Robert Spiteri (Yamaha).

In the end, Spiteri obtained the highest score on the day to finish ahead of Sant and Paul Deguara (Honda). Fourth place went to Peter Lee Sammut (KTM).

The Motocross Open honours went to Cauchi for his third successive victory this season.

The Autocross Modified races were held under the floodlights.

Here, Malcolm Borg (Opel Corsa) and Gordon Johnson (Opel Corsa) secured their place in the final after gathering the highest number of points in the qualifiers.

Andrew Pisani and Josef Abela (both Opel Nova), Karl Micallef (Ford Fiesta) and Jean Paul Grech (Peugeot 106) also made it through to the final.

Johnson dashed ahead right from the first corner but Micallef gave chase and stayed close in second place.

After nine gruelling laps, Johnson got the chequered flag with Micallef second and Grech third.

The Class B Modified final was won by Matthew Borg in a Fiat Ritmo as Karl Scicluna (Peugeot 106) prevailed at the end of a dramatic Autocross Standard category race.

The last round of Autocross races for this season will be held tomorrow week, under artificial lights.
