Allow me to make a small but important correction to Anna Grech’s letter ‘European capital’ (February 10).

Whereas she was right to point out that Palermo is not a European Capital of Culture this year, she was not when she stated that Valletta is the only European capital enjoying that status in 2018.

Valletta shares that status with Leeuwarden, the capital of the Dutch province Friesland, or Fryslân in the local language. Both here in Valletta as well as in Leeuwarden/Fryslân there will be a number of cultural events that will mark the connection between the two European Capitals of Culture in 2018.
