Since Transport Malta completed the embellishment of part of Strait Street, Valletta (the stretch between St Lucia Street and Old Theatre Street), we residents have been complaining to Mr Theuma of Transport Malta that the work should be finished properly.

After more than 15 days without a grating in front of my front door, and with a piece of board instead (which got soaked and was very dangerous to walk upon without breaking it), the grating has now been placed. And I am saying “placed” because it was only placed and not fixed.

This means it can be easily removed, apart from the fact that it is very wobbly to walk upon.

We have informed the local council and Transport Malta about this but to no avail because, after a week, it hasn’t been fixed yet.

All the work has been done carelessly and with no respect towards the residents. The local council blames Transport Malta but we are Valletta residents and so we expect our council to see to our needs without having to send hundreds of e-mails and make hundreds of phone calls. Someone has to answer for this negligence.

I hope that this blessed grating will now be fixed properly once and for all.
