Mgr Victor Grech was recently awarded the European Citizen’s Prize at Europe House by MEPs Louis Grech and Simon Busuttil.
The prize is awarded by the European Parliament to individuals who have distinguished themselves through outstanding commitment in promoting the European spirit.
Mgr Grech, who was nominated in May, will be invited to Brussels to meet European Parliament president Martin Schulz.
The award ceremony was held by the Office of the European Parliament in Malta in the presence of several distinguished guests.
Speeches made by MEPs Joseph Cuschieri, Simon Busuttil and Louis Grech highlighted the direct relevance of Mgr Grech’s commitment to the European values of solidarity, respect of human dignity and the engagement of the citizen in advancing the prosperity of his community.
Mgr Grech said he was proud to be Maltese and European and that the award was the result of cooperation across the political divide. He also underlined the relevance of European values today and the benefits of society from the EU.
