A total of 1,863 students last week received certificates after having successfully completed various courses at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.

Of these, 698 students completed Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) level 4 courses, while 1,046 students completed courses at MQF levels 1 to 3.

Over 72 per cent of the students who received level 1 to 4 certificates are continuing their studies at Mcast through higher level courses.

Last December, 625 students received higher national diplomas or bachelor’s degrees after completing Mcast level 5 and 6 programmes, while 71 students received certificates after completing Mcast aviation maintenance courses.

Mcast principal and CEO Stephen Cachia praised the students who decided to continue their studies notwithstanding the fact that they had already obtained qualifications that enable them to take up employment opportunities.

He also encouraged those students who have started their careers not to close the door to further education and to remain committed to updating and developing their skills and qualifications.

Next week, another 103 students who completed level 1 to 4 courses at Mcast’s centres at Xagħra and Xewkija will also receive certificates.

In addition, 17 students – 16 in Malta and one in Gozo – will receive certificates for completing the Mcast Pathway to Independent Living Programme, a course designed to help people with mild to moderate dis-abilities or learning difficulties acquire skills necessary for independent living.

In total, over 2,500 students successfully completed Mcast courses during the 2011-2012 academic year.
