The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Enterprise has welcomed the strong vote in favour of the Air Malta rescue plan by employees represented by the General Workers Union and the Union of Cabin Crew.

“Common sense has prevailed and this augurs positively for the airline’s future,” said Chamber president Tancred Tabone. “The vote has shown that Air Malta’s workers have expressed they are both reasonable and loyal to the company.”

Since time is not on Air Malta’s side, it is augured that that workers represented by the remainder of the unions quickly follow suit to pave the way for a clear and fast way forward towards Air Malta’s rescue plan, Mr Tabone said.

“As the Malta Chamber has consistently stated, Air Malta is not merely the national airline, it is one of the country’s primary economic and social lifeline. The effects of an eventual restructured and competitive Air Malta on the Maltese economy are wide-ranging.

“The airline’s future represents one of the country’s common goals because ensuring a bright future for Air Malta means ensuring an extra competitive edge for the country,” said Mr Tabone.
