The Times of Malta carried a Talking Point by Nils Muiežnieks on the back page and given prominence on the front page: a double whammy. This under the dictatorial heading of the ‘Need to reform abortion law’ (February 26).

He talks about women’s ‘rights’ to kill babies in their wombs. Never once does he mention the right to life of the child about to enter this world. Indeed, he never even mentions the word children, let alone their right to life. He uses euphemistic terminology like “interrupting a pregnancy”, further stating that he does not recognise a prenatal right to life.

It has been proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that life begins at conception, when the child obtains his/her own human DNA. The child in the womb is a living person and has a right to life.

The fact that the US, Latvia and other countries uphold murderous slaughter of the innocents will never make it right. We should be fighting to terminate these inhuman abortion laws wherever they exist, not introduce them here in Malta and Gozo.

As Commissioner for Human Rights to the Council of Europe, Muiežnieks should be campaigning for the human right to life of the unborn child.
