City Gate bridge will soon be narrowed to its original 16th-century width as the Valletta project continues.
Over the years the bridge has been widened from six metres to the current 20 and the plan is to reduce it to seven metres, explained project director Jean Marc Smits yesterday.
Standing beneath Tumas Dingli Bridge, he explained that pedestrians may still cross over from the bus terminus into the capital while work is carried out. The bridge forms part of the City Gate project that includes constructing a new parliament building, open-air theatre and entrance to the capital.
