4Teenth productions is this weekend staging the comedy In-Neputija tal-Kappillan, penned by Joe Gatt.

The production stars the ever-hapless Dun Benit (Mario Camilleri), who despite his optimism is constantly dogged by misfortune and woe.

With a runaway sacristan and a scheming brother-in-law, Dun Benit already has enough on his plate when the bishop sends a monsignor (Renato Dimech) to investigate the gossip about his comings and goings in the small town.

To make matters worse, his titular niece (Veronica Mizzi), who often professes her call to vocation, is seen cavorting in town drunk as a skunk. The lack of education or want of better things to do among the village folk means that gossip spreads like wildfire and facts are easily misconstrued.

In-Neputija tal-Kappillan will be staged on Saturday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 6.30pm, at the Oratorju Sagra Familja in Qormi. For bookings, call on 7909 6060.
