I refer to the report ‘Leo Brincat speaks on summit for climate’ (December 15), wherein it was reported that in the coming week I would call on eNGOs to nominate a competent person to pilot implementation of the COP21 decision and the climate change law that was recently approved by Parliament. What I actually stated was that, as contemplated by the law approved earlier this year, I will be asking eNGOs to nominate one person, ideally grounded in climate issues, who would sit on the Climate Action Board together with a nominee with an economic background appointed who is proposed by the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development.
As for the way forward regarding COP21, I promised that, within the first quarter of this year, my ministry will be holding a public event whereby all stakeholders will be able to analyse, probe and discuss the complex multilateral, international, regional and local impacts, implications and results of the COP21 Paris agreement.
