This is a great time to be in the ICT industry. By just zooming in on the last decade, major developments such as social media, touch devices and high speed internet on mobile devices have brought major changes.

With the ICT industry still relatively in its infancy, every developer and researcher can be a key protagonist and contribute to this exponential growth.

St Martin’s Institute provides the ideal ecosystem for students to flourish in the ICT industry. As one of the few international affiliate centres of the University of London, St Martin’s Institute prepares students for B.Sc degrees in both computing and information systems together with creative computing. These two degrees provide students with quality foundation in computer science, mathematics and programming – students can then specialise in either infrastructural computing or creative computing.

The B.Sc Creative Computing degree is specifically designed to prepare students academically for the creative industry, including gaming, filming, animations and music.

Employers emphasise the importance of having graduates who can promptly adapt the theory they learnt during their degree in relation to the task they are faced with.

This is not achieved overnight. St Martin’s Institute organises a yearly Game Development Challenge, whereby students from every level are encouraged to participate. Other extra-curricular events are organised throughout the year in an effort to provide students with varied experiences.

St Martin’s Institute not only provides quality higher education but also motivates its students. During the Game Development Challenge, participants are provided with professional lectures, workshops and critical analysis sessions.

This programme aims to boost certain skills that are not normally tackled during an academic programme but which are still required in the industry. Anyone interested in participating in this year’s Game Development Challenge can e-mail St Martin’s Institute at gamedev@stmartins.edu.
