Air Malta will run a daily service to Libya’s capital Tripoli from next month, with two additional weekly flights being added to the five it already offers.

The national airline will begin a sixth weekly flight on April 18 and a seventh on May 4.

Flights to Benghazi are also in the pipeline, with the company saying an announcement will be made shortly.

Air Malta resumed operations to Tripoli last November, having suspended flights due to last year’s war in Libya. Since then, it has experienced a steady increase in passenger demand.

“This summer, we expect to carry about 30,000 passengers to and from Tripoli,” said Air Malta CEO Peter Davies.

He described the latest increases in services to Tripoli as “another important step in our efforts to continue facilitating travel between the two countries and mainland Europe”.
