In 2007 the Church inaugurated Dar Pirotta in Birkirkara not only to provide a home for disabled people, but also to serve as a centre for disabled people and their families who live in the vicinity.
Birkirkara is one of the most populated towns in Malta and the service which this home has rendered has been universally praised. To date, it provides shelter for seven people, most of whom are still youngsters.
Dar Pirotta is deeply grateful to the government for providing financial assistance for each and every resident at this home.
Recently the Ministry of Education, Employment and the Family approved an increase in this contribution so that the number of residents will increase to 10.
In view of this, the home will be employing additional staff to meet these commitments.
It is hoped that the authorities will continue providing this invaluable help to disabled people, especially when establishing further homes to host them.
