Brass soloist David Childs will be performing the Maltese premiere of Karl Jenkins’ Concerto for Euphonium along with the 12th May band club at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta on October 2.

The 12th May Band Club will be celebrating its 50-year anniversary with a concert entitled ‘Celebrate Us’.

The concert will feature Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Danze delle Ore from Ponchiellini’s opera La Gioconda, and Rebbieħa, an overture composed by Joseph Vella.

The band will also perform the Finale from Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony and will be premiering Farrugia Frantz’s Jubileo Overture, written especially for the society’s anniversary.

Karl Jenkins’ Concerto for Euphonium was written specifically for Childs, who at the age of 19 won the BBC Young Musician of the Year award.
