An international conference focusing on the first anniversary of the Arab Spring has expressed shock over the detention of migrants in Malta and elsewhere, while also acknowledging the extent of the problem Malta faced.
Hosted by the Justice and Peace Commission of the Curia, the conference said the importance of economic justice and global solidarity was evident from the large numbers of vulnerable migrants from other parts of Africa, through North Africa and into Europe.
The delegates said they had visited three centres for migrants and spoken to the Jesuit Refugee Service, the International Organisation for Migration and KOPIN about the support they provided.
