Effects of less arable land

I wonder how many people noticed the small article at the bottom right hand corner of page 6 in Monday’s Times of Malta, which stated that the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables available in the first three months of this year was down by 14 per cent over 2014, which, naturally, led to a rise in prices.

And, yet, this government proposes to sell off – for development – several tumoli of prime arable land.

This would only result in more shortages of fresh local produce and higher prices.

How can they even begin to justify this?
